First Look at Microsoft Windows 8 OS

First Look at Microsoft Windows 8 OS
Windows 8 Demo, let's take a first look into the Windows 8 platform. Jensen Harris, director of PM from Windows User Experience channel gives the first demo on the Windows 8 interface.

When I say Windows 8 Demo, it's a standard OS for all upcoming Windows Devices (PCs and Laptops including the upcoming Windows Phone 8). So, the following demo shows you a sneak peek into what experience users will get on a Windows Mobile Phone 8 (will most probably be a tweaked light version of the same Windows 8 OS).

Key things to notice as you watch:

  • Apps form a tile-based Start screen fully customizable and scalable with full-screen views
  • Each app shows LIVE updates (new message, fb notifications, counters, timers...)
  • Fast switch between screens and apps
  • Move, replace, resize icons with just finger taps
  • Multi-touch flow, mutli-apps running on the background
  • Most apps rely web connections, updates on the background utilizing HTML 5 and JS
  • Latest IE Explorer, fast optimized browsing and smooth touch flow

Looking at the demo, i already feel Windows 8 will definitely be a huge success. My only concern with this design is Performance. I cannot estimate the minimum Memory requirement to run a Windows 8 OS ? Tablet PCs aren't yet as powerful as desktops or high end laptops. Same holds true for Mobile Phones.

Feel free to drop in your thoughts below.
  1. Which feature did you like the MOST
  2. Any feature that could be improved ?
  3. Any critics so far ?

I can't wait for windows 8 to come out for tablets and smart phones, I use an iPhone at the moment and although it's good I know a windows 8 phone will be better. I have watched the video on YouTube of the tablets and pcs that they show using windows 8 and I is pushing the tablet tech alot more than Apple are with the ipad

I will wait for Windows 8 phone and wont through my broken old Windows 6.5 phone. Because nothing is better than a Windows phone.

I can't wait to see this. I had Mobile 6.0 then 6.5 now I don't really like 7 so I'm waiting to upgrade my PDA to 8 with 15 mp camera with dual flash and 32gb memory on board with 32gb expanded more with WIFI 1000/BLUETOOTH/Printing, Use of a mouse and more.
Tables are out, so big.
Windows makes my outlook and appts/contacts synch so fast and easy.

How will W8mobile sync to Laptops? The current sync via Hotmail is a total disaster. Phone - will it have a speed dial function? Memo to Microsoft - if you expect business users to buy it then it needs all the functionality of W6.1 & 6.5 mobile. If you dont believe me then get Googling and read the ANGER that business users have expressed about W7.5.

I hope it's the same OS for the phone and for the PC (not like "Windows 8" and "Windows 8 Mobile")

plz add bluetooth file transfer protocol to your windows mobile , it seems like we are using a lower end basic device which even doesn't have a basic bluetooth feature.

Maybe I insanely love WM! I never think I would own any phone except WM

Please give the user the option to use the new Metro UI or keep the old "standard" desktop UI.

I'm not a fan of the Metro UI, it seem counter intuitive.

I using an iPhone to type this post. However I was a web os user before I jumped to an iPhone. Now I wanted to get a wp7 phone but Verizon only has the one. I see windows 8 and what it can do and it reminds me so much of how easy web os is/was and I love it. I will most likely be upgrading my comp when it comes out and getting rid of my iPhone if and only if windows 8 looks and acts the way they are showing it off right now for my phone. I have a Xbox and a pc why can't my phone be Microsoft based so everything will be in all together. Just make the phones and have Verizon sell them, I don't want to lose my unlimited data.

I currently have an HD2 (I love it). It has a beautiful 4"X3" screen. Why do the new (t-mobile) windows phones have smaller screens? When is the Windows 8 phone going to be released?

I upgraded my wife’s phone to windows phone 7 when it came out. Unfortunately I had to promptly return it when it wouldn’t sync with Microsoft Outlook! It turns out that a Google Android phone would let me sync with Microsoft Outlook and a phone running a Microsoft OS would not sync with Microsoft Outlook! MS tried to force me to move all my contact information to Windows Live Mail The logic being, I was told, that I would then have a backup of all my information in case I lost my phone. No one bothered to notice that Microsoft Outlook on my pc is already a backup outside my phone which I also have backups of, and additionally I can store any information I want without Microsoft having access to it, all without my knowledge because I’m supposed to leave it in their possession and I have to accept through their terms and agreements that they basically own everthing that gets uploaded to, or passed through their servers. Therefore, regardless of any other benefit to Windows Phone 8 or higher, unless I can choose to sync only with my own local copy of Outlook and not share any information across Outlook and Windows Live Mail, I will never get another windows phone. I’ll have to go with Android when I have to finally give up my current phone.

Like Anonymous above, I do not wish to use a cloud-based mobile phone OS. Holding my data on my own PC, with my own perfectly adequate arrangments for back up and security is preferable to uploading all my data to some corporate server who knows where! Syncing to my PC Outlook is vital, but it's the idea of giving up control of my data which I cannot accept.

I sure hope it isn't as bad as this video!! How about getting the guy a microphone so what he is saying can be heard??

As the 2 above. I was shocked when I bought my HTC Touch Pro 7 only to find out it wouldn't sycn with Outlook. I am due an upgrade soon and was considering waiting for a Windows 8 phone, but if I have to sync everything on Windows Live as opposed to an Android device that'll allow me to sync to my PC, Microsoft will lose my custom!!

Synching to Outlook has served me well for the last 10 years; Microsoft, if it aint brok, don't fix it!!!!

Any thoughts if Mango 7.5 can be upgraded to Windows 8? This is among one of the thing I HATE about Microsoft, and its called as "Transparency" which Open Source provide in abundance.

So, we have Nokia Lumia, Samsung Omnia running 7.5, trust me; I wana buy it provided, someone assure me it will be compatible with Windows 8.

please i would highly recommend that
